Fortnightly update

Where does the time go? That's what I want to know.

First of all, I'm going to record my exercise, just to get it captured while I can remember it. Then I'm going to have a massive whinge about my totally self-inflicted weight gain. It will be totally self-indulgent and annoying. If you read that far, remember, you were warned.

As it's been a fortnight, that means four bootcamp sessions. The first one involved a bit of power walking or slow jogging, interrupted by exercises chosen at random from a set of cards - 2 mins of squats, 2 mins of running up steps and walking down, lunges, dips, tunnel ball, etc. Apart from the whole 'this is hard work' aspect of the session, it was fun running up the steps in front of the War Memorial. We also jogged right around the building. I'd only ever approached it from the visitor's car park or the front entrance, so that was interesting. The second session was the agility session, where we do lots of jumping. I could really feel it in the muscles around my knees the next day, but my left knee wasn't painful. This is the third or fourth time I've done this particular session and I found the jumping easier than in the past. We met up an hour earlier on the Queen's Birthday holiday so that we'd have the light. That session was interval running. I haven't been doing much running lately, so I was looking forward to getting out and doing this session. I worked really hard. TB loves running and he put in a huge effort, which was rewarded with sore muscles all week. I pulled up much better so the regular exercise is clearly paying off. The last session was boxing with a difference. I really enjoyed the format.

I missed one of my Tuesday PT sessions due to having to go to Melbourne for work. It felt like ages since I'd seen Julia. The session was fun and it got me into the gym. I'm hardly ever there these days. On both Fridays I had my usual session with Krissi. The most exciting thing for me at the moment with those sessions is the chest bench press. Two weeks ago I managed two sets, with 4 and then 7 unassisted 30kg presses. Last week I managed three sets, with 10, 8 and 6 respectively and this week I managed the whole three sets. I struggled with the last few but I got them out. Krissi is going to wait until I manage to do the three sets of 10 comfortably and then we're aiming for three sets of 12 before she increases the weight.

I've only ridden to work once in the last two weeks. It's been a combination of bad weather, late starts, holidays and work trips that has stopped me. Hopefully the weather will be a bit better this week. My walking hasn't been too good, although I did walk for 4 km one morning and then catch the bus the rest of the way to work.

On to my second topic.

I've been maintaining my weight for the last three months but I have been losing the battle over the past few weeks. I guess I've known that for a while but I've been in denial. The time has come to stop pretending to myself that things are ok on the weight front. Seeing how few steps I was really doing was an eye opener.

Anyway, I've decided I'm not going to whinge about it, as planned when I started writing this blog. I know what I have to do. I know how to do it. I know TB would appreciate a healthier lifestyle. All I have to do now is implement it!
